Learn to Draw

‘Learn to Draw’ (for adults) is about exploring drawing techniques and processes in a fun and non-judgemental environment.

The goal of this course is to take the beginner from a blank canvas to a confident drawing. A strong foundation in drawing basics will serve as a great platform for approaching other artistic modalities.

Each person has individual mechanism for self-expression and seeing the world in a different way. Art allows us to leave our unique imprint on the world. It gives us a voice. Introspection and self-reflection can be explored through artistic expression.

Drawing trains our minds to view our mistakes as an essential part of a process …  (imagine seeing) mistakes as normal, temporary, and holding vital clues to your eventual success. This is the mindset that is crucial for innovation to occur … New ideas only occur when we take risks and our failures become productive. Drawing habituates that thought process …
The whole concept of talent is that of a skill-based aristocracy, that if we’re not born into, we’re doomed to mediocrity. Fortunately researchers are proving that mastering any field depends much more on passion and practice than innate ability … Drawing is an active way of engaging reality, of observing, analysing and recording it with the possibility of reimagining it.

Sinead currently teaches a weekly ‘Learn to Draw’ class for adults (beginners/improvers) at the Schoolhouse for Art in Enniskerry.
